Visits Tchad to explore possibility filming in the Tibesti mountains. Visits the Darfur region in Sudan looking for cattle nomads. Put under house arrest by the Sudanese authorities owing to Yom Kippur War. Visits Ethiopia and makes arrangements to work with the Afar Nomads of the Danakil Depression. Begins a long filmmaking engagement in Ethiopia starting with the Afar, then the Nuer with Hilary Harris and ending with the Hamar.
