Goes to Nigeria in search of the Uda Fulani (sheepherders dwelling in the dry wastes of Northern Nigeria) in hopes of doing a film on nomads. Civil War in Nigeria interrupts the project. Returns to resume Harvard activities. Elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
