I move to Seattle to teach Art History (learned on the job in Turkey) and read widely. Ruth Benedict's book, Patterns of Culture, convinced me to make a feature film about the Kwakiutl Indians. I marry for the first time and try film making with Sidney Peterson, an experimentalist from San Francisco.
