Graduates from Harvard and travels to Turkey as an assistant to the Keeper of the Byzantine Seal (Thomas Whittemore) of Harvard's Fogg Musuem. Does conservation work on mosaics in the Church of the Chora (Karije Jami) in Istanbul. These were transformative experiences during which I learned, among other things, that I knew nothing and that I had little time to lose correcting that appalling truth.
