Robert Gardner and John Knowles, undergaduates at Harvard. Knowles would become President of the Rockefeller Foundation and Director of the Mass General Hospital. Before that would happen we all dispersed, some to medical schools with which I had a brief flirtation and started more or less adult lives. Mine was to take me to Europe and Asia for the first time.
